House of Blues
PROJECT DETAILS
Highland Partnership, Inc. was selected to construct this 80,000
s.f., three story urban infill, mixed-use project near the historic Gaslamp
District in Downtown San Diego. Major users in this facility include The House of Blues as well
as on-site office space. The project involves extensive structural
renovation of the existing building, including the bracing of a historic
two story masonry façade during the demolition and structural
renovation phases. Additional challenges included the implementation
of an effective site management plan to safely construct a mid-rise
structure in a dense, downtown district.
Highland Partnership worked to salvage the existing three-story, 50,000
s.f. concrete structure rather than demolish the building and build from the
ground up. This concerted waste management effort is estimated to have
saved over 20,000 c.y. of concrete.
